In a report cited by the IRNA on Sunday, the Health Ministry said 550,000 people suffer from strokes each year, and 15% of those cases lead to death.
“It is worth noting that about 30% of the people who suffer from a stroke in the country are under 50, which is 10 years lower than the global average,” it said.
World Stroke Day is observed on October 29 to highlight the serious nature and high rates of stroke, raise awareness about ways to prevent the condition, and ensure better care and support for survivors.
According to a study conducted by the Health Ministry two years ago, 1.4% of over 18 Iranians have a medical record of suffering a stroke, with men having higher rates.
The study showed that 0.22% of over 18 population suffer from this condition, and the presence of a family history of stroke is also reported in 12.5% of men under 55 and women under 65 who suffer strokes.
